June has finally arrived and you know what that means… hot summer days! Beating the heat at the pool is great, but nothing compares to coming home to a cool apartment. Follow these easy tips to make your home summer friendly.
1. Keep the curtains closed
One simple way to keep the temperature down is to stop sunlight from coming in through windows. Simply draw the shades and close your curtains during afternoon hours. Bonus tip – white blinds or drapes will reflect sunlight away.
2. ...but open windows at night
Allowing the night breeze to filter through the windows is a great way to take advantage of cool, fresh air. There’s no reason to run the air conditioner when the temperature drops at night!
3. Rethink your meals
Summertime is the perfect opportunity to try out new meals… ones that don’t require the use of a stove! By staying away from hot appliances, you’ll avoid unbearable temperatures in the kitchen. If the stove and oven are a routine must, consider cooking just one day during the week and storing leftovers in the fridge, or take advantage of an outdoor grill.
