Creating The Ultimate Summer Oasis For Your Patio or Balcony

|

The weather is heating up, and that means spending more time outside. It’s also the best time to spruce up your apartment's patio or balcony. You can create the perfect reading nook, relaxation area, or plant haven, but need the right accessories to make it the ultimate summer oasis. Check out our tips below on how to turn your patio from boring to inviting and exciting!

The Perfect Furniture

The first step in your design process is to pick out some patio furniture that is comfortable, stylish and versatile. Since you will most likely be spending a lot of time outside, it is important to get something you will enjoy sitting on and relaxing in. One way to maximize your space and comfort is to utilize folding chairs. This can make moving furniture easy for whatever occasion comes your way. Add comfort to these chairs with simple cushions you can swap in and out when needed. You can find these styles of chairs at Target, Walmart, Overstock, Wayfair, and more!

Are folding chairs not your style?! A patio set is another great option. These sets come together and usually include a small table with two chairs, perfect for smaller patios and balconies. These sets come in many different designs and sizes, perfect for any style. Some of our favorites include:

  • This weather resistant modern set from Home Depot

  • This whicker boho like set from AllModern

  • This trendy chat set from Target

Add Some Greenery to Your Oasis

Being limited in space doesn’t mean you can’t add some greenery to your patio. Plants can brighten anyone's mood and add some much needed life to any space! One way to utilize all the space on your patio or balcony is to incorporate planters or plant holders that have multiple levels. This allows you to have more plants and creates a calm and inviting ambiance. If you have a hard time keeping your plants alive, succulents are the way to go. They are low maintenance, some species don’t require direct sunlight, and they only need to be watered every about every two weeks. If real plants aren’t your thing, faux plants are a great alternative and can look just like the real thing!

Add Some Ambiance With Different Forms of Lighting

Summer nights are the perfect time for relaxation after a long day. One way to set the mood on your patio or balcony is to add some additional lighting. There are many different lighting styles you can use that don’t take up a lot of space and look good, too.

  • Lanterns are a great option and can be placed on the ground or a small table. Add some battery powered fake candles and you’ll have the perfect amount of lighting.

  • Depending on which Sequoia community you live in, hanging string light may not be permitted, but they don’t have to be hung to still be functional. These lights can be placed on the ground surrounding the perimeter of your balcony for a fun and inviting way to decorate. String lights can also be wrapped around different furniture pieces to help bring them to life at night. They can also be added to mason jars for a centerpiece on your table or scattered around your outdoor area.

Soften The Space With Accessories

Now that you have your furniture, plants, and lighting it’s time to make the finishing touches on your outdoor oasis. Adding some accessories can turn your patio or balcony into a homey and welcoming space. One way to do so is to add a colored or patterned rug to place under your furniture. From there, you can use the base colors of the rug to add accent pillows and cushions to bring everything together. Add your favorite finishing touches like an outdoor blanket, baskets, and anything else that makes your patio space you.
