December 5, 2025 | by Sequoia

Walnut Creek, CA - On the evening of December 5th, 2025, Sequoia was recognized at the Multi-Housing News’ 19th annual MHN Excellence Awards in New York City for two outstanding awards. Among an impressive list of multifamily leaders, Sequoia earned the Silver award for Best Marketing Campaign, continuing its proven success when it comes to creative campaigns. Sequoia also took home Gold for Most Effective DEI Program, solidifying its dedication to diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging as a company. These awards celebrate Sequoia's innovative, results-driven marketing campaign efforts, as well as their commitment to creating a workplace where team members thrive.
In 2024, Sequoia launched a company-wide campaign to challenge industry norms around pet restrictions. At the heart of the campaign was a policy change to remove breed restrictions across the majority of the portfolio. Sequoia took a public stand, redefining what it means to be a pet-friendly community. This campaign also delivered amazing results, including a 500% increase in website traffic, over 1 million impressions, and major boosts in engagement across all platforms. More importantly, it highlighted what makes Sequoia unique: creating inclusive homes where every family member, pets included, feels welcome. This policy change positions Sequoia as a true industry trailblazer. While many organizations continue to enforce weight limits and breed restrictions, their inclusive approach gives Sequoia a distinct competitive advantage and further elevates the strength and value of their brand.
"We are very excited and honored to be recognized by Multi-Housing News with an MHN Excellence Award for Best Marketing Campaign this year. This campaign holds a special place in my heart as a dog owner, and I hope it helps push the industry forward when it comes to pet-inclusive housing,” says Justin Choi, Sequoia’s Sr. Director of Marketing and Technology. “I am very proud of our Marketing team for conceptualizing this campaign and launching such a successful campaign. Also, thank you to our site teams for helping bring this campaign to life at each of our communities.”
Sequoia’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is reflected in both its culture and its actions, supported by a 4.3/5 Diversity & Inclusion rating on Glassdoor and the leadership of its company-wide DIBE Task Force. Composed of team members from onsite to executives, the task force drives initiatives that foster understanding, elevate diverse voices, and build an equitable workplace where all individuals feel respected and valued. Their work includes Purpose time volunteering, community engagement, cultural celebrations, educational programming, and company-wide conversations with guest speakers on topics ranging from autism awareness to suicide prevention. Together, these efforts have strengthened Sequoia’s internal culture and extended meaningful impact into the broader community. The people are what make Sequoia such a special company, and winning this award that celebrates the individuality of its team members and reinforces that its people come first.
With two MHN Excellence Awards, Sequoia not only celebrates a year of creative marketing achievement and positive community impact but also highlights its position as a forward-thinking leader in the multifamily industry, dedicated to both customer satisfaction and team member well-being.
This is the 19th annual Excellence Awards that was hosted in New York City on 12/4, which recognizes the multifamily industry’s most noteworthy people, companies, properties, and more.
